INP-03Trust boundary enforcement
A trust boundary is enforced: instructions originating from non-user sources require user confirmation through the primary interaction channel before any consequential action. In multi-agent chains, confirmation binding is governed by MAS-03.
The boundary between user-provided content and system-issued instructions is enforced at every layer. Instructions originating from non-user sources, tools, retrieved documents, other agents, cannot direct consequential actions without explicit user confirmation through the primary interaction channel. In multi-agent chains, confirmation binding is governed by MAS-03.
Table INP-03.1 · Maturity criteria · v.1.3
L1 to L5 · the lowest level in scope caps the agentControls exist informally; documentation is incomplete; no consistent review.
Controls are written down; ownership is assigned; review cadence is defined.
Controls are followed in practice; evidence is collected; deviations are tracked.
Trust boundaries are documented for all input paths; enforcement is tested as part of the adversarial assessment; no consequential action from an untrusted source has bypassed confirmation in the review period.
Control effectiveness is measured against documented thresholds; trends are reported.
Controls evolve based on incident learning; maturity gains are evidenced over time.
The v1.3 edition publishes a control-specific criterion at L3 (Operated). The other levels apply the general ladder to this control; see the maturity ladder.
Evidence an assessor asks for
- E.1
Trust boundaries are documented for all input paths.
- E.2
Enforcement is tested as part of the adversarial assessment.
- E.3
No consequential action from an untrusted source has bypassed confirmation in the review period.
